Arsenal Receive Boost Ahead Of Vital Dortmund Clash
Arsenal have been handed a timely boost ahead of our crunch Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund later this month with the news that manager Jurgen Klopp will not be in the dug out for the Germans.
Klopp was sent to the stands during Dortmund’s defeat to Napoli two weeks after after reacting angrily towards the fourth official after defender Neven Subotic wasn’t allowed back on the field following treatment, with the Italians scoring during his absence.
He was initially banned for one match and sat out of their 3-0 win over Marseille on Tuesday. However, FIFA have confirmed today that Klopps’ ban has been extended to two matches due to the severity of his actions meaning he will now miss out clash at the Emirates on the 22nd.
Dortmund can still appeal the decision, but have yet to decide whether to bother. A statement by Dortmund read:
Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has been banned for two matches by European soccer’s governing body UEFA following his outburst during their 2-1 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League last month
This decision can be appealed. Borussia Dortmund are currently considering whether to go down that route.
Klopp is hot property in the managerial market right now after leading Dortmund to two league titles and a Champions League final spot in the last three years, so it will be a bonus if he’s not on the touchline when they come to north London.
