Arsenal delivered a commanding performance against Manchester City in their Premier League clash on Sunday, securing a resounding 5-1 victory over the defending champions.
The Gunners wasted no time in making their mark, taking the lead within the first minute after capitalizing on a mistake by Manuel Akanji, with Martin Odegaard sweeping home. The early breakthrough set the tone for a dominant display by Mikel Arteta’s men.
Manchester City responded in the second half, with Erling Haaland drawing the game level in the 55th minute, heading in a brilliant cross from Savio. However, Arsenal quickly restored their lead a minute later, as Thomas Partey’s shot from outside the box took a deflection before finding the back of the net.
Myles Lewis-Skelly extended Arsenal’s advantage, and further goals from Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri sealed an emphatic win, ensuring the North London club secured maximum points.
Arsenal Player Ratings
David Raya – 8/10
The Spanish goalkeeper made two brilliant saves in the first half, including a crucial stop from a Josko Gvardiol header and a brilliant low save from Savio to keep Arsenal ahead. There was little he could do to prevent Haaland’s goal.
Jurrien Timber – 7/10
The Dutch defender put in a solid display, contributing effectively to both defence and attack. However, a yellow card slightly affected his overall rating.
William Saliba – 7/10
Saliba was caught out for Manchester City’s goal, as Haaland outjumped him to score. Other than that moment, he was defensively sound and played a key role in keeping City’s attack at bay.
Gabriel Magalhães – 8/10
The Brazilian defender showcased his leadership at the back, frustrating Haaland and making crucial interceptions. He continues to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the world.
Myles Lewis-Skelly – 8/10
Another outstanding performance from the Arsenal academy graduate. He was solid in defence, tidy on the ball, and capped off his display with a well-taken goal.
Thomas Partey – 9/10
Partey was instrumental in midfield, shielding the defence while also driving the team forward. His deflected goal restored Arsenal’s lead, rounding off an excellent performance.
Declan Rice – 8/10
Rice was a key component in Arsenal’s victory, linking defence to attack seamlessly. His intelligent first-touch pass after Matheus Nunes’ giveaway played a crucial role in the opening goal. He created three chances and registered two assists, thriving in a game where Partey’s defensive work allowed him to shine.
Martin Ødegaard – 8/10
The Arsenal captain was the creative spark in midfield, putting the Gunners ahead in the opening minute. His vision and passing dictated Arsenal’s attacking rhythm.
Gabriel Martinelli – 7/10
Martinelli provided an assist and was a constant attacking threat on the right flank. His relentless work rate also saw him track back to help out defensively when needed.
Leandro Trossard – 7/10
The Belgian winger was a menace on the left flank, pressing well and winning back possession in the build-up to Arsenal’s first goal.
Kai Havertz – 7/10
Havertz set up Ødegaard’s opener but missed a golden chance to double Arsenal’s lead in the first half. However, he made amends after the break with a well-taken goal and caused City’s defence some problems.
Substitutes
Ethan Nwaneri – 8/10
A brief but impactful cameo, as he found the net with a stunning effort to cap off Arsenal’s dominant performance.
Mikel Merino – N/A
Came on late and had little time to make an impact.
Riccardo Calafiori – N/A
Had limited involvement after being introduced late in the game.
Raheem Sterling – N/A
Made a late appearance but didn’t have enough time to influence proceedings.
Arsenal’s emphatic victory sends a strong message to the rest of the league, proving they are serious contenders in the title race.
