Arsenal receive boost in pursuit of Romeo Lavia
Arsenal have received a big boost in pursuit of Romeo Lavia as Southampton have reportedly decided to lower their asking price to sell their star man this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.
It is an open secret that Mikel Arteta has decided to revamp the midfield department in this transfer window. The Gunners have already signed Declan Rice from West Ham United in a record £105m deal after selling Granit Xhaka.
It has been suggested that the Spanish boss is open to letting Thomas Partey leave as well and wants to sign a new midfielder to replace the African.
Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with Lavia being mentioned as a serious target. However, it has been reported that Southampton decided to slap a £50m price tag on the 19-year-old’s head and Arsenal are reluctant to meet the Saints’ valuation to purchase the youngster.
However, according to the report by Sport, Southampton have decided to lower their asking price and are now ready to accept a fee of around £34m. So, this is a huge boost for Arsenal and it is now going to be interesting to see whether the North London club opt to spend the reported fee to sign their key target.
Lavia to Arsenal
But, the report claims that purchasing Lavia won’t be easy for Arsenal as Liverpool and Manchester United are also plotting a swoop for him in this transfer window.
After coming through Manchester City’s youth system, Lavia moved to the Saint Mary’s Stadium last summer. The youngster enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Premier League last term so it is not a surprise to see that big English clubs such as Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool are looking to secure the Belgian’s signature.
Lavia is a deep-lying playmaker, he is technically sound, dynamic, strong, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing and also can contribute defensively as well.
The 19-year-old is an extremely talented player and would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to beat Liverpool and Man Utd in this race by luring Lavia to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
