Arsenal handed quadruple injury boost ahead of Atletico Madrid clash
Arsenal have been handed a quadruple injury boost with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sead Kolasinac, David Ospina and Alex Iwobi taking part in training today ahead of our trip to Atletico Madrid.
Mkhitaryan returned from five games on the sidelines with a goal-scoring performance during our 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Armenian international was considered as a doubt for our Europa League semi-final second leg after being forced off with a knee injury midway through the second half.
However, it looks like Mkhitaryan has made a swift recovery as the playmaker was able to train with the rest of the first team squad his afternoon ahead of the trip to Spain.
Iwobi finished the game against United holding his hamstring and Arsene Wenger admitted the midfielder was also a doubt to face Madrid while Ospina needed treatment for a rib injury during the second half.
Kolasinac was the final doubt to take on Madrid after he was forced off during the defeat to United with an ankle problem with Nacho Monreal replacing him in the 64th minute.
However, it appears we’ve been handed a quadruple boost as Iwobi, Ospina and Kolasinac have joined Mkhitaryan in training with the squad at London Colney this afternoon.
Wenger is due to hold his pre-match press conference in Madrid this evening so he should provide a team news update then but it looks like the quartet should all be available for selection.
The news comes as a welcome relief as we need to be at full strengthen to get a positive result in Madrid following our hugely disappointing 1-1 draw at the Emirates last week.
