Arsenal face competition from Spurs in race to sign £50m attacker
It looks like Arsenal may face stiff competition for the signing of Riyad Mahrez as the Evening Standard claim Tottenham have now expressed their interest in the Leicester City attacker.
Mahrez has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates for well over a year and he decided against joining Arsenal last summer when he opted to sign a new deal at the King Power.
However, Arsene Wenger has seemingly renewed his interest in the Algerian international after he submitted a formal transfer request to Leicester at the end of last season.
Mahrez failed to live up to the kind of form that saw him named as the PFA Player of the Year in 2016 and he’s now ready for a new challenge after the Foxes finished mid-table last year.
The Mirror reported earlier this month that Mahrez was desperate to join Arsenal and was frustrated by Leicester’s £50m valuation as Wenger has so far refused to meet that asking price.
The boss has since turned his focus to signing Thomas Lemar but with Monaco also demanding huge money for the French international, we could yet formalise our interest in Mahrez.
However, we may face competition from our north London rivals as the Evening Standard claim Spurs have made contact with Leicester and asked to be kept informed of the players situation.

Obviously Tottenham can offer the 26-year-old Champions League football but the newspaper says that like Arsenal, they aren’t willing to meet the Foxes £50m asking price.
We’ll have to see how things develop but I fully expect Arsenal to go in for Mahrez if we can’t get a deal agreed for Lemar and I think he’d be a solid addition to the squad if we could get him back to his 2015/16 form.

We have many players who are deadwood or real bit part players, who can and should be sold. But Giroud is not among them as he regularly contributes something no other forward can, which is to score headers and hold up the ball, which gives us an alternative system, which sometimes is needed. Elneny though is just a makeweight, along with the talented but never fit Wilshere. Giggs, Jenkinson, Debuchy, Chambers are other passengers. Also I would get rid of Walcottt too for two simple reasons; he does not work and he is often injured. Aged 27 he still has a decent transfer value but as he has shown over 11 years , we can never rely on him and he is on top wages for a non effective player
