Arsene Wenger offers Petr Cech injury update ahead of Spurs game
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Petr Cech has been ruled out for up to a month with a serious calf injury.
Cech picked up the problem during the final stages of Wednesday night’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea with the keeper pulling his calf while running back to his goal having gone up for a last minute corner.
Arsene has now revealed that the 33-year-old was carrying a minor groin issue before the game and must have over compensated, leading to a calf injury.
Fans have been praying it’s nothing serious but unfortunately the boss has told reporters at his press conference this morning that Cech is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks.
It means the Czech international will now miss Saturday’s crucial North London derby as well as games against Hull, West Brom, Barcelona and Everton but he could be fit again after the international break when we entertain Watford.
David Ospina will deputise in goal over the coming weeks and Wenger says he has no concerns about playing the Colombian international. I wish I shared his confidence….
Here is what the boss told reporters this morning:
Cech out for "3-4 weeks. It is a serious calf injury. He had a groin alert on the first goal. Maybe he compensated." #AFC
