Arsenal trio called up for England duty
Arsenal trio Kieran Gibbs, Calum Chambers and on-loan striker Chuba Akpom have all been called up for England duty this afternoon.
Gibbs is our sole representative in the senior England squad as he’s been named in Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad ahead of the Three Lions games against Spain and France.
Obviously Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott were unavailable for selection due to injury.
Meanwhile, Chambers has been selected to play for the under-21’s after struggling to get regular game-time in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.
He’s joined in Gareth Southgate’s squad for their upcoming qualifiers with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Switzerland by Chuba Akpom, who’s been included after impressing while on-loan at Hull City this season.
Hopefully Gibbs and Chambers can get some game-time under their belts as they’ve not played a lot for Arsenal this season.
Here are the squad as confirmed by the FA this afternoon:
Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke City), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley)
Defenders: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)
Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Jonjo Shelvey (Swansea City), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
