Arsenal made last-gasp attempt to sign Iliman Ndiaye

Arsenal reportedly made a last-gasp attempt to sign Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, as per Senegalese outlet Taggat.

After cashing-in on Leandro Trossard, the Gunners have decided to upgrade the left flank by purchasing Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge this summer.

However, the North London club have allowed Gabriel Martinelli to join Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal. As a result, Mikel Arteta seemingly wants a new left-winger before today’s deadline.

Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze can provide cover on the left flank if needed. But Madueke is more comfortable on the opposite side, while Eze likes to be deployed in the CAM role.

Now, on X, Taggat report that Arsenal were interested in Ndiaye and enquired about the details of signing him. However, he has now agreed to join Manchester City for a fee of around £65m.

After missing out on signing the 26-year-old, Arsenal have now shifted focus to purchasing Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyonnais, with the player open to joining.

Since joining the Toffees from Olympique de Marseille a couple of years ago, Ndiaye has displayed promising performances in the Premier League.

He is a right-footed versatile winger as he can be deployed on either flank. Ndiaye is quick, strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and also works hard without possession.

The Everton star is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he would have been a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal had they managed to secure his services.

Meanwhile, after winning the Premier League title under Arteta’s guidance last term, Arsenal have been very busy in this window to refresh the squad and hand the Spanish boss the necessary tools to maintain the momentum this season.

Following William Saliba’s serious back problem, the Emirates club have purchased Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. On the other hand, they have signed Illan Meslier as a free agent to add depth to the goalkeeping department.

Moreover, after letting Christian Norgaard join Everton, Arsenal have bought Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

Following Aston Villa’s assignment in the Premier League, Arteta’s side are set to face Chelsea in the league next weekend before starting the Champions League campaign against Napoli next week.
