Arsenal suffer blow in pursuit of Bournemouth’s Alex Scott

Arsenal have suffered a huge blow in the pursuit of AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott, as per The Standard.

After moving to Vitality Stadium from Bristol City, the 22-year-old initially took time to adapt to the Premier League’s physicality before showing glimpses of his qualities last campaign.

In 39 appearances across all competitions, the Englishman made five goal contributions and helped his side qualify for next season’s Europa League.

Now, The Standard state that following his recent development, he has placed himself on the radar of several big English clubs. Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in him, but they haven’t made a formal approach to seal the deal.

However, Chelsea have already seen their £64m proposal for Scott rejected by the Cherries, who have no intention of parting ways with him. But the youngster is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge. So, this is a big blow for Mikel Arteta’s side in their pursuit of him.

Scott’s existing deal is set to run until 2028, and Bournemouth are keen to tie him down to a new contract. They have already made two contract offers, but he has rejected both.

It has been suggested that if Marco Rose’s side are eventually forced to cash-in on him during this offseason, they may accept around £80m.

Scott to Arsenal

Scott is a right-footed box-to-box midfielder by trait but can provide cover in the CDM position if needed. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Arsenal currently have Christian Norgaard, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi and Myles Lewis-Skelly as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions.

However, Norgaard struggled to break into Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up, while Zubimendi displayed inconsistent performances last campaign.

Merino has had fitness problems in recent months, and Rice has taken on an enormous workload since the start of last term. Lewis-Skelly, meanwhile, is still very young and needs time to develop.

Scott is a Premier League-proven player and isn’t a finished article yet. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they manage to secure his services by defeating other clubs in this race.
