Arsenal confirm signing of Christos Tzolis in £34m deal

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge on a long-term contract, as announced on Arsenal.com.

After winning the Premier League title last season, Mikel Arteta vowed to be aggressive in the transfer market and strengthening the left wing position was a understood to be a priority.

With Leandro Trossard joining Besiktas earlier this month, a replacement was needed for the experienced Belgian international and Tzolis soon emerged as the prime candidate.

A deal with Brugge was swiftly agreed and the 24-year-old flew to London to undergo his medical and finalise terms over his move to the Emirates Stadium.

Those formalities have been completed and Arsenal confirmed on their official website this afternoon that Tzolis has joined the club on a long-term deal – believed to be for five years.

While the fee hasn’t been confirmed on Arsenal.com, Sky Sports are one of several mainstream outlets reporting that we’ve paid around £34m for the winger – which is a record fee for the Belgian Pro League.

Tzolis should bring some much needed goal threat from the left side of attack as he contributed 17 goals and 23 assists in 36 league games for Brugge last season.

After completing his move, Tzolis told Arsenal.com he excited to start the next chapter of his career.

“I need some time to realise, I think!” he said. “It’s absolutely amazing to sign for such a big club, the champions of England. I’m very proud to be part of this team for the next season.”

“When my agent was saying maybe it was a possibility, I was already excited. Afterwards it was getting more serious and now I’m here.”

“I had a nice conversation [with Mikel Arteta]. It was around an hour. We talked about everything, about the club, about myself, about his plans, about me of course, about the team. It was only positive things.”

He should prove to be an exciting replacement for Trossard as the two players have a similar profile. Tzolis is comfortable playing from the left wing and likes to cut in from that position, but can also operate as a No.10.

The Greek international started his career at PAOK Thessaloniki before moving to Norwich City in 2021. He ended up joining Brugge in 2024 and enjoyed his time in Belgium with 33 goals in 74 games.

Tzolis will wear the No.17 shirt at Arsenal and has already linked-up with his new team mates for pre-season training in North London as we prepare for the upcoming season.
