Arsenal interested in signing Crystal Palace’s Lacroix

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, as per Caught Offside.

Since moving to Selhurst Park from German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, the 26-year-old has enjoyed great success, winning an FA Cup, a Conference League, and a Community Shield over the last couple of years.

He showcased his qualities last campaign, scoring three goals and registering as many assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he helped his side keep 18 clean sheets.

After proving his worth in club football, Lacroix secured his place in France’s star-studded World Cup squad, helping his country finish fourth.

Now, Caught Offside claim that following William Saliba’s injury, Arsenal are planning to step up their efforts to sign a new defender and have earmarked Lacroix as a serious option.

They have been monitoring his situation closely before making a potential swoop. However, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Chelsea have made the Frenchman their top target to reinforce the backline.

Moreover, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City are also interested in the Crystal Palace star.

Lacroix to Arsenal

The report state that Crystal Palace initially wanted around €55m[£47m] to let their star man leave, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. However, the Eagles want a bidding war for Lacroix and are planning to demand up to £59m amid growing interest in him.

As a result, the Gunners have lined up Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa and West Ham United’s Konstantinos Mavropanos as potential alternative options in-case they fail to sign Lacroix.

Lacroix is a 6ft 4in tall right-footed centre-back. He is quick, strong, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Following Saliba’s injury, Arsenal have been left with Cristhian Mosquera as the only RCB option, but he is still very young and needs time to develop.

Jurrien Timber and Ben White can provide cover in the centre-back position, but they mainly play as right-backs, while White has struggled to stay fit in recent years.

The Crystal Palace star is a Premier League proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this window to bolster the backline.
