Arsenal have shown a ‘strong interest’ in signing West Ham United left winger Crysencio Summerville this summer, according to Ekrem Konur.

Summerville has seen his reputation soar after an outstanding FIFA World Cup campaign with the Netherlands national football team.

Although Morocco eliminated the Oranje in the round of 32, Summerville produced four goal contributions in four games, including the assist for Cody Gakpo’s opening goal against the Atlas Lions.

His performances on the international stage came as little surprise, as he had already shown his qualities at club level following an encouraging season with West Ham United, which led former Manchester United head of first-team development Nicky Butt to describe him as an ‘explosive player’.

After enduring a difficult start to life at the London Stadium, the winger developed into one of the Hammers’ standout performers during the recently concluded campaign, registering 12 goal contributions despite the club’s eventual relegation.

He is already garnering significant interest from several clubs, particularly in England, and there’s an expectation he could move to a new club in the ongoing transfer window for a fee well above his £29m Transfermarkt valuation.

The latest club to join the race for Summerville is Arsenal, according to Ekrem Konur, which claims that the Premier League champions have shown a ‘strong interest’ in signing the 24-year-old.

‘Explosive player’

The report adds that Mikel Arteta’s side are prioritising a move for a Premier League-proven winger this summer and could launch a swoop for the Dutchman to reinforce that position.

However, the north London giants face stern competition from Manchester United, who are considering the former Feyenoord and Leeds United prodigy as a potential attacking option should Marcus Rashford depart the club this summer, Konur adds.

Although questions remain about how swiftly the 24-year-old will adjust to the expectations that come with representing Arsenal, one of the most encouraging aspects of his displays for the Netherlands was how well he flourished alongside world-class teammates.

That could indicate there is still another level to Summerville’s game when surrounded by players such as Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze and coached by Mikel Arteta.

Even if he is not an automatic starter, the ‘explosive’ winger would still provide Arsenal with an outstanding rotational option, capable of influencing matches from the bench while ensuring the Gunners retain their attacking intensity and quality whenever he is introduced.
