Arsenal ‘preparing’ a formal proposal to sign Dani Olmo
Arsenal are reportedly ‘preparing’ to launch a formal proposal to sign Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 28-year-old is a product of the Blaugrana’s famed La Masia academy, but he left the club at an early age in search of regular first-team football to aid his development.
Since returning a couple of years ago, the Spaniard has been mainly featuring as a rotational option under Hansi Flick. Still, he has enjoyed great success, winning two La Liga titles and a few major domestic cup competitions.
This season, he has netted eight goals and registered nine assists in 31 starts across all competitions. He has even secured his place in the Spanish national team for this summer’s World Cup.
Now, Fichajes state that Martin Odegaard’s future has become a subject of speculation ahead of this summer window after he struggled to showcase his best form due to fitness problems this season.
If the Norwegian eventually leaves, Arsenal have identified Olmo as the ‘top target’ to reinforce the No.10 position. The Gunners are even ‘preparing’ to launch a formal £52m proposal to persuade the Blaugrana to cash-in on him.
Barcelona are planning to revamp the frontline this summer and have been working on a deal to sign Julian Alvarez, having already purchased Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Olmo to Arsenal
So, the report state that Barcelona might be open to accepting Arsenal’s potential offer if they ultimately launch it to balance the books, as Olmo isn’t a regular starter.
However, the 28-year-old has an emotional attachment with the Catalan giants and might not want to leave just yet.
Olmo is a right-footed creative midfielder by trait but is also efficient in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the flanks if needed.
Olmo is a technically gifted player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, he has had fitness problems over the years, and Arsenal need to be careful about that before making any potential swoop. Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to secure his services to bolster the squad.
