Arsenal plan to launch bid to sign Atalanta’s Ederson
Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch a formal proposal to sign Atalanta star Ederson, as per a recent report.
The Gunners currently have Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and Christian Norgaard as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions.
However, Norgaard has found himself on the periphery since joining from Brentford last summer, failing to start a single Premier League fixture this term.
On the other hand, Merino has been out injured over the last few months. As a result, Rice and Zubimendi have been taking on enormous workloads this season.
Norgaard is set to turn 33 next year and has a contract until 2027, with Arsenal having an option to extend his deal for one more year. So, it appears the North London club have already started exploring options to replace the Dane.
Now, as per a recent report (via TEAMtalk), Arsenal have registered their interest in Ederson, but Atlético de Madrid, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are also in this race.
Los Rojiblancos have agreed on personal terms with the Brazilian and are preparing to launch a formal £33m proposal, including bonuses, to seal the deal.
Ederson to Arsenal
However, La Dea have no intention of parting ways with him for anything less than £43m, even though his existing deal is set to expire at the end of next season.
So, this is a boost for Arsenal to win the race and are preparing to launch a formal proposal to hijack the Spanish giants’ deal. The 26-year-old would be open to playing in the Premier League or La Liga if he were to leave Serie A this summer.
Ederson is an experienced player and helped Atalanta win the Europa League a couple of years ago. He is a dynamic defensive midfielder by trait, but can provide cover in the No.8 role if needed.
The Atalanta star is a highly talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service by defeating other clubs in this race.
