Arsenal weigh up move for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa
Arsenal are reportedly considering a shock move for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa as they look to add more depth in attack.
Reports from Football Insider suggest the Gunners could enter the race for the Congolese international.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been hit by the injury to Kai Havertz, who recently underwent surgery following a knee problem sustained against Manchester United.
His absence has left Arsenal short of options in the final third, despite several new signings this summer.
Arsenal have already brought in Viktor Gyökeres to lead the line, with Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze also joining to provide creativity and width.
Yet, according to the report, Arsenal believe another addition could be necessary before the window closes and Mikel Arteta is now eyeing a move for Wissa.
Wissa’s profile and appeal
Wissa would bring a valuable option for rotation, helping to reduce the workload on Gyökeres over the course of a demanding season.
At 28, he offers experience and proven quality in the Premier League. The Brentford attacker has already been linked with Newcastle, and it is understood he is keen on a new challenge.
A switch to Arsenal could appeal if the club decide to make a formal offer. Last season, Wissa delivered an impressive return with 20 goals and five assists across all competitions for Brentford.
His direct style of play and versatility make him an attractive option for Arteta, who values players capable of adapting across several forward roles.
According to Transfermarkt, the forward holds a market value of £28 million. However, Brentford are expected to demand a higher figure given his importance to the team and his goal record last campaign.
Arsenal are seeking to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours, and Arteta has stressed the importance of depth in key positions.
Wissa could therefore represent a smart move, providing both cover and competition within the attacking unit.
With the window deadline looming, much will depend on whether Arsenal push forward with their interest. It’s safe to assume any move for Wissa would only happen if the Gunners could offload some unwanted players.
Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira are two attacking players that are likely to depart over the coming days. If they do, that could make room for Wissa.
