Arsenal interested in signing Inter star Carlos Augusto
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan star Carlos Augusto, as per Italian outlet FC Inter News.
After being impressed by the 26-year-old’s displays for Monza, the Nerazzurri decided to sign him. The Brazilian initially moved to the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on a loan deal a couple of years ago before signing permanently last summer.
Augusto has played mostly as a rotational option under Simone Inzaghi; still, he managed to help his side win the Scudetto in the 2023/24 campaign.
In 21 starts in the Champions League and Serie A last term, the defender scored three goals and registered four assists. Moreover, he helped his side keep eight clean sheets.
Now, FC Inter News report that Arsenal have registered their interest in Augusto as their sporting director, Andrea Berta, has been keeping a close eye on him since his Atletico Madrid days.
With Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney leaving this summer, the Gunners are reportedly planning to buy a new left-sided defender and could make a move to sign the Inter star.
Augusto to Arsenal
The Italian giants have no intention of parting ways with the Brazilian international, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. However, if they are forced to cash-in, they want around £26m.
The report say that Atletico Madrid are also interested in Augusto, so purchasing him won’t be straightforward for the North London club.
The Inter star is a versatile player as he is comfortable playing in the LWB position and the LCB role in a back three. So, he should also be able to play in the left-back role.
Augusto is comfortable with the ball at his feet, is good in the air, and poses a serious threat to opposing defenses during set-piece situations. So, his acquisition would make Arsenal even more lethal in dead-ball situations.
The South American is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service in this transfer window.
