Arsenal in pole position to sign Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, as per Caught Offside.
The 21-year-old has been on the radar of big European clubs since his Salzburg days. After joining the German side ahead of last season, the youngster enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Bundesliga, making 20 goal contributions in all competitions.
Following that, the Gunners reportedly expressed their interest in signing him last summer but didn’t make a concrete approach. In the end, he opted to remain at Red Bull Arena by signing a new contract.
He has continued to showcase eye-catching displays this season, netting 21 goals and registering six assists in 43 appearances in all competitions. The forward even scored an excellent goal against mighty Bayern Munich last weekend.
Now, Caught Offside claim that despite failing to hire Sesko last summer, Arsenal remain keen on signing him as they feel he would be an ‘ideal’ addition to Mikel Arteta’s attacking options.
Sesko to Arsenal
Arsenal are even preparing to submit a formal proposal to get the deal done. Leipzig want a fee of around £69m-£76m to sell their star man, but Arteta’s side have no intention of matching the valuation and want to spend up to £59m.
The North London club aren’t the only club interested in signing the Slovenian international, as Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain are also plotting a swoop for him. However, Arsenal are leading the race ahead of other clubs.
Sesko, standing at 6ft 5in tall, is quick, good in the air, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is also efficient in finishing off his chances.
He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a top-class striker in the future. Moreover, he has the physicality to flourish in the Premier League. Therefore, he could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they purchase him.
However, Sesko is very young and may take time to settle down in the English top flight. So, he might not be able to help Arsenal win the title straightaway should he join this summer. Therefore, Arsenal might be better off signing a more experienced striker.
