Arsenal ‘best positioned’ to sign Lyon ace Rayan Chekri
Arsenal are reportedly ‘best positioned’ to sign Olympique Lyonnais star Rayan Chekri, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a productive campaign this term, scoring 12 goals and registering 18 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions.
He has been helping Les Gones mount a top-four charge in Ligue 1 this season and displayed excellent performances against Manchester United in both games in the Europa League quarter-final. He netted in home and away, unfortunately, Lyon ended up on the losing side.
With the forward set to enter the final year of his current contract, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging ahead of the summer window.
Now, Fichajes claim that having been impressed by Cherki’s performances this season, Manchester City have registered their interest in signing him.
However, Arsenal are ‘best positioned’ to get the deal done after making contact with the player. The North London club feel Cherki would be an ‘ideal’ option to strengthen the attacking department, so they are willing to make a move for him.
Cherki to Arsenal
Lyon would be open to accepting an offer of around £25m to sell the youngster this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.
Cherki is comfortable with both feet and can play on either flank. Additionally, he is efficient in the attacking midfield position. Even if he is deployed out wide, he likes to get involved in play and usually comes infield.
Therefore, the Lyon star would be more suited to play as a No.10 than out wide in Mikel Arteta’s system. He is technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders, has an eye for long-range passing, and can also link up the play.
Cherki is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to become a world-class forward in the future. Therefore, he would be a shrewd bargain acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen the squad.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will face off against Ipswich Town in the Premier League this weekend before taking on Crystal Palace next week.
