Arsenal open talks to sign Aston Villa star Jhon Duran
Arsenal have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran, as per Caught Offside.
The 21-year-old moved to Villa Park from Chicago Fire in January 2023. He has been a rotational player at the Villans and it remains the same this season but he has started showcasing his qualities.
The Colombian has made 26 appearances in all competitions thus far this term but only seven came as a starter. Despite that, he has netted 12 goals and is currently the top scorer for Unai Emery’s side.
Moreover, he has now secured his place in Colombia’s starting eleven. So, it is not a surprise to see big clubs around Europe have started noticing him.
According to the report by Caught Offside, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing Duran and have already held talks to enquire about the details of signing him.
Duran to Arsenal
Aston Villa want around £60m to sell their star man – who still has five and a half years left in his current contract having recently signed an extension.
The report say Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in him as Paris Saint-Germain are also in this race and are ready to table an opening proposal to get the deal done but may not decide to match Emery’s side’s price tag.
Additionally, FC Barcelona, Napoli, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also expressed their interest in him and have also asked about the details of getting the deal done. Therefore, it won’t be straightforward for the North London club to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have been inconsistent thus far this season and they need reinforcements in the attacking department. Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus are the two striker options Mikel Arteta currently has but the duo haven’t been able to showcase consistency.
Duran is quick, strong, good in the air, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and is also efficient in finishing off his chances. Therefore, he possesses the necessary attributes to become a world-class forward in future. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they eventually manage to secure his service.
