Arsenal predicted line-up against Preston North End
Following a 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the Premier League last Sunday, Arsenal will have to shift their focus onto the EFL Cup as they face off against Championship side Preston North End tonight.
The Gunners have reached the fourth round of this competition after defeating Bolton Wanderers in the previous round.
On the other hand, Preston have had a tough start to this season as they are currently only three points ahead of the relegation zone. So, the Gunners will be coming into this game as a favourite, although the Championship side will have the home support.
Team news
Gabriel Magalhaes limped off in the second half against Liverpool so he is unlikely to feature in this encounter. Mikel Arteta has provided promising news – which is that his injury doesn’t look serious.
Moreover, it appeared Jurrien Timber picked up a knock last time out but Arteta has confirmed that he doesn’t have any issue and was just tired so he was taken off. But, he could be given a breather tonight.
Additionally, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori aren’t in contention to feature due to their respective injury problems.
William Saliba served his one-game ban in the last game after picking up a red card against Bournemouth. So, he is eligible to feature in this encounter.
Predicted line-up
Arteta is expected to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven from the last game to give a breather to some of the key players ahead of next weekend’s Stamford Bridge trip to take on Chelsea in the Premier League.
David Raya should continue in goal for the visitors and in front of him Saliba and Jakub Kiwior might be paired up in the centre-back position with Josh Nichols and Myles Lewis-Skelly the two fullbacks. So, Ben White would be given a rest in midweek.
Jorginho should commence in the holding midfield position and on either side of him, Ethan Nwaneri and Declan Rice could start in the engine room. Therefore, Mikel Merino would be among the substitutes.
Raheem Sterling is expected to be on the right flank, while Gabriel Martinelli might be on the opposite side. Gabriel Jesus would lead the line for the North London club. So, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard could be given a breather in this encounter.
Expected Arsenal line-up vs Preston
Raya; Nichols, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Jorginho, Rice, Nwaneri; Sterling, Jesus, Martinelli
