Arsenal interested in signing Khephren Thuram this summer
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing OGC Nice star Khephren Thuram in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Italian outlet TUTTOmercatoWEB.
The North London club are seemingly contemplating signing a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Thomas Partey – who has been struggling with fitness issues in recent times.
Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Douglas Luiz, Martin Zubimendi and Amadou Onana being mentioned as the primary targets. But, Thuram is now emerging as a key option.
According to the report by TUTTOmercatoWEB, having been impressed by the Frenchman’s recent displays in the Ligue 1, Arsenal have been tempted to make a move for him this summer.
The report further claims that Thuram could be available in the summer so Arsenal can manage to secure his signature at the end of this season. However, TUTTOmercatoWEB states that Manchester United are also plotting a swoop for him and in addition, Juventus are keen on acquiring his service ahead of next season.
Therefore, the North London club are expected to face stiff competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for the Nice star.
Thuram to Arsenal
The midfielder – valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt – is set to enter the final year of his current contract this summer so Arsenal could be able to acquire his service in a cut-price deal if they formalise their interest.
Thuram is a versatile player as he is comfortable playing in the holding midfield position as well as the box-to-box role. He is dynamic, strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, can play threading passes between the lines and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
So, the Frenchman could be an excellent option to replace Partey, while Mikel Arteta could use him in the box-to-box role, deploying Declan Rice in the deep-lying playmaker position should Arsenal sign him.
Therefore, Thuram could be a shrewd signing for the Gunners, but it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club opt to make a concrete approach to secure the 22-year-old’s signature if he eventually leaves Nice during the off-season.
