Arsenal closing in on a deal to sign Moises Caicedo
Arsenal are reportedly edging closer towards signing Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer, as per Football Transfers.
The Gunners have prioritised strengthening their engine room this summer and it has been suggested that the Ecuadorian is their number-one target along with Declan Rice.
Mikel Arteta’s side tried to purchase Caicedo last winter and made two official bids worth up to £70m to lure the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium. But, the Seagulls were reluctant to let their star man leave and turned down both proposals. So, a deal never materialised and in the end, he remained at the AMEX Stadium.
However, despite failing to purchase him last time around, Arsenal haven’t given up on their hope of signing Caicedo and are seemingly preparing to reignite their interest this summer.
According to the report by Football Transfers, Arsenal have already held multiple talks with the player’s representatives and the personal terms that Caicedo agreed on with the North London club last winter still exist.
Caicedo to Arsenal
The report further claims that Brighton are expected to demand a fee of around £75m to sell their star man this summer and the Seagulls are confident that Arsenal will pay the asking price. So, Arsenal are looking likely to be able to finally sign their long-term target in the upcoming transfer window.
Caicedo is a defensive midfielder by traits but Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi deployed him in the right-back position several times this season. The 21-year-old is technically sound, can link-up the play from defence to attack, is dynamic and also excellent in defensive contributions.
Caicedo has already showcased his talent in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons and is now deemed one of the best young midfielders in the world. So, purchasing a player of his calibre would be a statement signing for Arsenal, in addition, he would be an ideal option to play in Arteta’s possession-based system if the youngster were to join the club this summer.
It has been suggested that Arsenal want to purchase both Caicedo and Rice to bolster their midfield department. So it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club push forward with a deal to sign the West Ham United star should they manage to secure the South American’s signature first.
