Arsenal target Ridle Baku set to leave Wolfsburg this summer

By on April 12, 2023

Arsenal target Ridle Baku is reportedly ready to leave VfL Wolfsburg at the end of this season, as per the German football expert Florian Plettenberg.

It has widely been suggested that the Gunners are once again set to be busy in this upcoming summer window as they are planning to strengthen their squad to challenge on all fronts next season.

Midfield is the area that Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster this summer but apart from that, attack and the right back are the other two positions that the Spanish boss is reportedly hoping to reinforce for next season.

Several right-backs have already been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the summer window with Ivan Fresneda, Joao Cancelo and Jeremie Frimpong among them. But, Baku has emerged as a serious target for Arsenal in recent weeks.

Writing on Twitter, Plettenberg has claimed that Baku is on Arteta’s wish-list and Arsenal will have to spend around €15m (£13m) to lure him to North London this summer.

Baku to Arsenal

The journalist also says that the defender is ‘open to leave’ Wolfsburg at the end of this season and Premier League is his preferred destination so that will be a big boost for Arsenal to get a deal done.

But, Plettenberg states that Several Spanish sides are also interested in signing Baku so Arteta’s side are set to face tough competition from La Liga clubs in purchasing him.

Plettenberg wrote:

“News Baku: Been told the 25 y/o right back is very open to leave Wolfsburg in summer! Dream destination: Premier League. He’s on the shortlist of Arsenal confirmed! Interest from Spain as well. Possible price tag: Around €15m!”

Arsenal have been struggling with their right-back problems in recent times due to Takehiro Tomiyasu’s persistent injury issues and Baku would be a shrewd signing to address that problem if the club’s hierarchy manage to get a deal done.

Baku is an attack-minded full-back – who is comfortable playing anywhere on the right flank. He is quick, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, can create chances for the forward players and also has the ability to chip in with some important goals.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in purchasing the Wolfsburg defender should he eventually leave the Volkswagen Arena at the end of this season.
