Arsenal consider selling Folarin Balogun next summer

Arsenal could reportedly look to sell Folarin Balogun next summer despite his impressive loan stint in Ligue 1 this term, as per The Sun.

The 21-year-old is currently testing himself out on a season-long loan at the French top-flight with Stade de Reims. Since moving to the Stade Auguste Delaune, the youngster has been enjoying a stellar campaign this season, scoring 14 goals and notching up a solitary assist in 21 league appearances.

Balogun is now the leading goalscorer in Ligue 1 ahead of Paris Saint-Germain trio Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. And after blossoming in French football this term, Reims reportedly tried to make the youngster’s move permanent this winter but the Gunners turned down that proposal.

According to the report by The Sun, Arsenal have been surprised by Balogun’s rise this season and they are currently in a dilemma about whether to keep the striker at the club or cash-in while his stock is high.

Balogun to leave Arsenal

The report further claims that Arsenal are considering giving Balogun time to prove his worth in the Premier League and the Champions League during the first half of next season. But, if he fails to impress then he could be sent out on loan once again.

However, in this scenario, his price could drop drastically and Arsenal wouldn’t be able to make the most profit out of his departure, given the forward will have only 18 months left on his current contract next winter.

Arsenal already have strikers Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah – who has been impressive in recent times amid Jesus’ injury absence – in their squad. So, they are well-resourced in the striker position and it is unlikely that Balogun would be able to find regular game-time at the Emirates if he decides to stay and fight for his place next season.

Therefore, cashing in on him could be the right decision and it was previously reported that the north London club believe the youngster could be valued at around £50m very soon.

So, although it might come as a big surprise, selling Balogun would be the right decision and if Arsenal manage to get £50m out of his sale then they will be able to invest the transfer fee to bolster other areas of the squad.

Arsenal have ambitious plans to strengthen their midfield this summer with the likes of Declan Rice and Moises Caceido on their radar. The pair are reportedly valued at over £80m each so they could certainly do with £50m from the sale of Balogun to help fund those moves.

    I think better to sell. Anywhere around 45/50m is a no brainer. Throw in Tavares,Holding,Pepe,AMN,Soares,Lakonga. You could be looking around 80/95m. Remember 12m spent on Jorginho instead of 80m on Caiceda means we have cash spare there. Win PL or Europa, or both means a greater transfer kitty. COYGs.
