Arsenal linked with move for £34m Marco Asensio

By on June 29, 2022

According to AS, Arsenal are eyeing a move to sign £34m-rated Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio after seeing a move for Raphinha hijacked by Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his attacking options this summer and Arsenal are on the verge of wrapping-up a deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

We’ve also been strongly linked with Raphinha in recent weeks and the Daily Mail says Arsenal put forward a fresh offer for the winger on Tuesday after seeing an opening £30m plus add-ons offer rejected by Leeds.

Widespread reports suggested that Arsenal were pushing to get a deal in place but according to the Mail, Chelsea came in with a £55m plus add-ons offer to blow us away.

Raphinha now looks set to move to Stamford Bridge leaving Arteta looking at alternative attacking targets and it appears the Gunners boss may have turned his attention to Asensio.

According to AS, Arsenal are eyeing a move for the Real Madrid winger and Arteta is a ‘great supporter of the operation’ to sign the Spanish international this summer.

Competition

The Spanish news outlet says Madrid will cash-in if £34m [€40m] is put on the table but Arsenal face competition from Italy with AC Milan and Juventus hoping to lure the 26-year-old to Serie A.

Asensio has just one year left on his contract and is no closer to signing an extension at the Bernabeu having struggled to nail down a regular first team place in recent seasons.

The 28-cap Spanish international wants to be a first team starter at this stage of his career, especially with the World Cup coming up, and it looks like he could be ready to leave this summer.

With Asensio wanting to leave and just 12 months remaining on his contract, I suspect Arsenal would hope to agree a fee lower than £34m but it would also depend on how much the likes of Juve and Milan are willing to pay.

AS suggests that Asensio will look to resolve his future after he returns to pre-season on July 8th, so we’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks.
