Gabriel Jesus in London to secure £45m Arsenal move
According to Fabrizio Romano, Gabriel Jesus is in London to undergo his medical this morning and wrap-up a £45m move from Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta needs to strengthen his front line after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to leave Arsenal this year and the boss has identified Gabriel as his prime target.
We were locked in negotiations with City for some time and had at least one bid rejected, but a breakthrough was found last weekend when widespread reports claimed a £45m fee was agreed between the two clubs.
Gabriel was given permission to finalise his move and Fabrizio Romano claims the striker has arrived in London to undergo his medical with Arsenal this morning.
Romano says contracts have already been ‘completed’ with Gabriel signing a five-year deal and an official announcement is expected to follow once the formalities have been undertaken.
The Italian journalist said on Twitter:
Arsenal update. Been told Gabriel Jesus will undergo medical tests today morning – he’s already in London, ready to complete his move to Arsenal with official statement to follow 🚨🇧🇷 #AFC
Contracts already completed. Gabriel signs until June 2027. Man City to receive £45m fee.
The 25-year-old should prove to be a quality addition to Arteta’s squad and it’s something of a coup for Arsenal as several other top clubs have been linked with Gabriel this summer.
However, the Brazilian international had opted for a move to the Emirates in order to link-up with Arteta – who he worked with during the Spaniard’s time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
Gabriel isn’t an out-and-out goalscorer but he’s still a huge threat up front having provided 13 goals and 13 assists for City last season. He’s also a terrific link-up player and one of the hardest working forwards in the game so he’ll fit in to Arteta’s system perfectly.
As long as there are no last minute complications, Gabriel is set to become Arsenal’s fourth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of goalkeeper Matt Turner, winger Marquinhos and midfielder Fabio Vieira.
