Arsenal target Victor Osimhen hints at move
According to Goal, Victor Osimhen has admitted he could leave Napoli this summer after his agent held talks with Arsenal chiefs in London last month.
Mikel Arteta is in the market for striking reinforcements after Alexandre Lacazette re-joined Lyon on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also joined Barcelona in January while Eddie Nketiah is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal so Arsenal are going to have to bring in at least one top class striker this summer.
Osimhen is one of several names being linked with a move to the Gunners and the Nigerian international has hinted he could be on the move over the coming weeks.
Speaking while away on international duty, Osimhen admitted ‘anything can happen’ and acknowledged interest from England [and Spain], but insists he’ll take care of his future once he’s enjoyed a holiday.
When quizzed about leaving Napoli this summer, Osimhen is quoted by Goal as saying:
“I don’t know my future, I know anything can happen, but now I just want to go on vacation with my family, clear my head and recharge my batteries. Then we’ll take care of the rest.
“I know there are many rumours that they would like me in Spain or in England, but I don’t think it’s the right time to talk about it now that I’m with the national team.”
This quote comes after Osimhen’s agent flew-in to London last month to hold talks with Arsenal’s technical director Edu about a potential move to the Emirates, according to Goal.
However, any deal won’t come cheap. Napoli paid around £68m to sign Osimhen from Lille two years ago and president Aurelio De Laurentiis is renowned for his tough negotiating skills.
The 23-year-old has scored 24 goals in 51 Serie A appearances so his value has almost certainly increased during his time in Italy. Can Arsenal afford to pay north of £70m for a new striker?
Only time will tell, but if we can, then Osimhen would be a terrific addition to Arteta’s squad as he has all the attributes needed to be a success in England.
