Fabrizio Romano claims that Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans are Arsenal’s top transfer targets with fresh talks expected to take place soon.

Mikel Arteta is expected to be in the market for several new signings this summer as he looks to continue his squad rebuild. The Arsenal boss has overseen a huge overhaul since becoming manager in 2019 but he knows we need more quality if we’re to take the next step.

A striker is desperately needed as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona in January while Alexandre Lacazette is set to return to Lyon on a free transfer when his contract expires later this month.

Eddie Nketiah is tipped to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium but Arsenal still need at least one new top class forward this summer and Gabriel has been touted as a prime target by the media recently.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Gabriel remains at the top of Arsenal’s list of transfer targets, with the Brazilian international expected to join a Premier League club from Manchester City this summer.

Gabriel has dropped down the pecking order at City following the arrival of Erling Haaland and with just 12 months left on his contract, he’s informed the Premier League champions he wants to find a new club.

According to Goal Brazil, Arsenal have already submitted an opening offer worth around £42m [€50m] but it falls short of City’s £51m [€60m] valuation. Gabriel is also understood to be concerned by the lack of Champions League football on offer at the Emirates.

I’m sure Arteta will do all he can to try and persuade the South American to join Arsenal this summer, but it’s going to be difficult – especially with plenty of other top clubs seemingly in the mix.

Arsenal also need to bring in another midfielder, and Fabrizio Romano says Youri Tielemans is our prime target. The Belgian international has just one year left on his contract at Leicester City and is refusing to sign an extension.

The Foxes are expected to cash-in now rather than risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time, and Romano says Arsenal are set to open fresh talks with Leicester over a deal to sign the 25-year-old.

Like Gabriel, Tielemans has vast experience in the Premier League so wouldn’t need any time to adapt to life in England. They are both 25, so have their best years ahead and time left to develop their talents further.

I think Gabriel and Tielemans would be too astute signings for Arsenal who would improve our starting eleven. They won’t take us to the level of City or Liverpool, but certainly a step in the right direction.

They both have a year left on their contracts, so should be attainable at reasonable fees, and are realistic targets for us. Let’s see how things go but I’d be pleased if Arsenal were able to land Gabriel and Tielemans this summer.
