Arsenal’s full 2019/20 Premier League fixtures: Key dates assessed
The fixtures for the 2019/20 Premier League season were released today so let’s take a look at some of the key games in Arsenal’s schedule…
It’s safe to say Unai Emery has been handed another tough start as we’ll face a trip to Newcastle on the opening weekend and St James’ Park is never an easy place to go. The Premier League have already confirmed the game will be shown live on Sky Sports on Sunday August 11 at 2pm.
Arsenal welcome Burnley to the Emirates for a very winnable first home game the following weekend but we then have to travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool which will obviously be an extremely difficult match.
The first North London Derby of the new season will take place at the Emirates as Arsenal entertain Tottenham on August 31st meaning we have three very tough games in our opening four fixtures. Certainly not the start Emery would have wanted.
September and October are quiet months due to the international breaks but the stand out game is Manchester United away on September 28th while November also looks like a month when we should pick up some points.
However, December and the New Year period is going to be tough. We face Manchester City at home on December 14th before trips to Everton and Bournemouth either side of Christmas day. Arsenal then face Chelsea at the Emirates before taking on Man Utd on New Year’s Day. Thankfully both games are at home but this will still be a very testing period.
The reverse fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge takes place at the end of January while we take a tough trip to the Etihad to take on defending Champions Man City at the end of February.
March and the start of April look good on paper but we take on Tottenham at their new stadium on April 25th before welcoming Liverpool to the Emirates the following weekend. We then wrap-up the season with a trip to Villa before entertaining Watford at the Emirates.
The good news is we have four home games following Europa League group stage matches with the two away games being against Leicester and Norwich, so that’s a big positive for Emery.
Overall, I think it’s a tough set of fixtures for Arsenal. We have an extremely difficult start and it’s never easy to recover if we lose a couple of those matches early on as you’re always playing catch up. The busy Christmas and New Year period is tough and we face back-to-back games against top-six rivals on three separate occasions which is hugely unfortunate.
Here is our fixture list in full and confirmation of the opening weekend games:
