[Ratings & goals] Spurs 1-1 Arsenal: Leno & Sokratis star, Auba & Mustafi the villains
Arsenal blew a golden opportunity to close the gap on Tottenham after missing a late penalty to draw 1-1 with our North London rivals at Wembley.
Arsenal opened the scoring in the 16th minute when a quick break-away saw Alexandre Lacazette release Aaron Ramsey and the midfielder kept his cool to round Hugo Lloris before slotting home for 1-0.
We were looking comfortable but Shkodran Mustafi had a moment of madness when he barged an offside Harry Kane in the area. The inept officials didn’t spot the offside and the penalty was given. Kane scored to make it 1-1 in the 74th minute.
Arsenal were then given a penalty in the dying minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was fouled in the box. However, the Gabon international saw a tame effort saved by Hugo Lloris and he then fluffed the rebound to leave us with a point.
Here are my ratings:
Leno 8/10 | Stunning double save to keep it at 1-0 just before the break. The one from Sissoko was world class.
Mustafi 5/10 | Was actually having a solid game at right back but in true Mustafi style he made one costly mistake after needlessly barging Kane in the area to give away the penalty.
Sokratis 8/10 | Superb performance. Made a couple of excellent interceptions from dangerous crosses and was a real leader at the back.
Koscielny 7/10 | Dealt with plenty of crosses and wasn’t really troubled by Kane or Son throughout the game.
Monreal 7/10 | Fine display from the reliable Spaniard. Coped with the threat of Son and Trippier and should have had an assist after teeing-up Lacazette.
Guendouzi 6/10 | Did okay but a couple of loose passes put us under pressure. Not his best game. Subbed at half time.
Xhaka 7/10 | A solid performance without really dominating the midfield. Used the ball well and got his standard booking.
Mkhitaryan 7.5/10 | Another good display from a player in form. Worked his socks off defensively and was a threat going forward.
Ramsey 8/10 | Showed great composure to round Loris and slot home for 1-0 to score yet another Wembley goal. Ran himself ragged.
Iwobi 6/10 | Almost made it 2-0 with a fine effort just before half-time but was a little sloppy at times.
Lacazette 6/10 | Fluffed a great early chance but sent Ramsey clear for the opening goal. Missed another massive chance to make it 2-0 early in the second half. Was subbed shortly after but still put in a solid shift for the team.
Subs:
Torreira 7/10 | On for Guendouzi at the break and was very good in the second half, breaking up play and adding some energy in midfield. Very unlucky to be sent off late on.
Aubameyang 5/10 | I wasn’t confident when he took his penalty and was proved right. It had no conviction and he should also have scored the rebound.
Ozil 5/10 | No real impact in the final 15 minutes.
