[Photos & video] Torreira trains with new Arsenal team mates for the first time

By on July 30, 2018

Lucas Torreira and Stephan Lichtsteiner trained with their new Arsenal team mates for the first time after finally starting their pre-season preparations on Monday.

Torreira completed his £26m move from Sampdoria on the 10th July but was then given an extended break following his exploits with Uruguay at the World Cup.

The midfielder has been enjoying some time with his family in South America but flew-in to London over the weekend and was out on the training pitches at London Colney this morning.

Lichtsteiner was our first signing under Unai Emery after he completed a free transfer move from Juventus in June but his arrival was also delayed after he competed with Switzerland at the World Cup finals.

However, the right-back also linked-up with his new team mates on Monday and was joined by Granit Xhaka and Nacho Monreal in kicking off their pre-season preparations. The boys spent some time in the gym before joining the rest of the squad for a training session in the afternoon.

Obviously the majority of the squad have been in training for a few weeks so the likes of Torreira and Lichtsteiner have a lot of work to do to get their fitness levels up to scratch but it’s great to see the new boys finally with the rest of the squad.

They are unlikely to play any part against Chelsea in our friendly in Dublin on Wednesday night but we could see Torreira and Lichtsteiner in action against Lazio at the weekend.
