[Player Ratings] Arsenal 3-1 AC Milan: Xhaka impresses, Welbeck punished for dive
Arsenal survived an early scare to secure a 3-1 comeback victory over AC Milan tonight and book our place in the last 8 with a 5-1 aggregate win.
Milan opened the scoring with a long-range stunner before Welbeck blatantly dived in the area to ‘win’ a penalty which he dispatched for 1-1.
Xhaka then got lucky as the Milan keeper let his long-range strike through his hands before Welbeck wrapped things up late on.
Here are my ratings:
Ospina 6/10 | Should have done better for the opener but made a couple of decent saves in the second half.
Bellerin 6.5/10 | Average night for Hector. Was involved going forward but final ball was poor. Their goal came from his side.
Koscielny N/A | Forced off early on with a back injury. Hopefully it’s not serious.
Mustafi 7/10 | A solid performance. Covered well alongside Chambers when he came on. Didn’t put a foot wrong.
Monreal 7/10 | Straight back in the team with another solid display. Kept things simple and didn’t give anything away down his flank. Quiet going forward.
Xhaka 7.5/10 | Should have closed down Calhanoglou quicker for his goal but was otherwise very good. Got another [albeit, fortunate] goal but form is improving.
Ramsey 7/10 | Was always involved and supported the attack throughout. Missed a good chance but almost scored in the build up to Welbeck’s second late on.
Mkhitaryan 7/10 | Almost scored with a header and worked his socks off. Keen to make things happen and was lively throughout.
Ozil 7/10 | Created six chances and he didn’t even play that well overall. Will have better night’s but always a threat when he’s on the ball.
Wilshere 7/10 | Went close with a powerful long-range effort in the first half and played a key role in the third goal. Much better after a couple of poor displays.
Welbeck 5/10 | Would have been a 7 if not for the horrible dive but dispatched the penalty well and was on hand to head home a second late on. Should give him some confidence.
Subs:
Chambers 7.5/10 | One of his best displays of the season. Kept things simple and didn’t put a foot wrong.
Kolasinac, Elneny N/A
