Arsenal want to sign £22m star as Mislintat plots triple summer swoop
According to the Mirror, Arsenal want to sign Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno as head of recruitment Sven Mislintat looks to bring in three new players this summer.
Arsene Wenger’s position as manager is under severe scrutiny with a growing number of fans calling for the Frenchman to leave at the end of the season following a disastrous campaign.
Wenger’s power at the club has already been diluted as Mislintat has come in as head of recruitment and appears to be playing a key role in the acquisition of new players.
The Mirror claim the former Borussia Dortmund man has been tasked with finding three new players this summer with the club looking for a new keeper, centre-back and holding midfielder.
There is no question we should fill these three positions and the need for a new No.1 was highlighted once again at the weekend after Petr Cech made two mistakes during our defeat to Brighton.
The 35-year-old’s performances this season have been woeful and with David Ospina also failing to prove he’s the answer to our problems, we have to buy a new keeper this summer.
It seems we’ve already got to work on our targets with the report saying Arsenal want to sign Bayer Leverkusen stopper Bernd Leno – who has a £22m release clause in his contract.
The 26-year-old has been one of the best keepers in the Bundesliga in recent seasons and he’s been capped six times by Germany – which is pretty decent considering Manuel Neuer is his competition!
Leno has only missed three games in seven years and the Mirror claim that Mislintat is well aware of his quality so is hoping to lure the German star to the Emirates this summer.
I must admit I haven’t seen much of Leno in the flesh but obviously Mislintat has given his extensive knowledge of German football so we should trust his judgement.
Let’s hope we manage to sign Leno but it’s just as important we get a new manager and a new goalkeeping coach in the summer.
