Agent confirms Arsenal interest in signing 23-year-old international defender
According to quotes in the Evening Standard, the agent of Daniele Rugani has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in signing the Juventus defender but he insists we haven’t submitted a formal offer yet.
Arsene Wenger spent most of his time rejuvenating his attacking options during the January transfer window with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Peirre-Emerick Aubameyang arriving.
However, the boss also confirmed last week that he tried to strengthen his defensive options and we reportedly saw an offer for Jonny Evans rejected by West Brom on deadline day.
We’re tipped to renew our interest in the Northern Ireland international at the end of the season but it seems Wenger is also working on other potential transfer targets.
We’ve long been linked with a move for Rugani and the defenders agent, Davide Torchia, has now confirmed Arsenal’s interest in signing the Juventus centre-back but insists no firm offer has bene made as yet.
Torchia is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:
“Daniele’s doing well, I’m happy for him. Arsenal? They didn’t launch any assaults for him.
“They expressed a liking for him, but we have respect for Juventus.”
Rugani is considered as one of the best young defenders in Serie A and has already been capped by the senior Italian national team having represented his country at every youth level.
The 23-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular place under Max Allegri having featured in only one of Juve’s last ten games and it seems Arsenal could offer him a fresh start in the Premier League.
However, no doubt Juventus are keen to keep hold of the highly-rated defender and with his contract not expiring until 2021, we would have to offer a sizeable figure to tempt them in to a sale.
