Talks underway as Arsenal close-in on signing £60m international
According to a report in the Daily Star, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of £60m-rated Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir as Arsene Wenger looks to find a replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
Our Chilean super-star is out of contract in the summer and is no closer to signing an extension so it looks like it’s only a matter of time before he leaves the club.
Wenger insists Sanchez won’t be sold during the January transfer window but we need to plan ahead for when he does leave and it seems Fekir has emerged as a prime target.
The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months after developing in to one of the most exciting attackers in French football.
Fekir came through the youth system at Lyon and is now a vital first team player having scored 13 goals in 16 appearances so far this season while he’s also a regular in the French squad.
The Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal have now opened talks over signing the attacking midfielder after Wenger supposedly identified Fekir as the ideal replacement for Sanchez.
The newspaper says Lyon value the player at around £60m and it’s looking increasingly likely that we’ll fend off competition from Atletico Madrid and Juventus to sign the attacker.
It’s not made clear whether Fekir is expected to join Arsenal in January or if the deal will wait until the summer but I think he’d be a superb addition to the squad if we could get a deal done.
Fekir can be deployed as a No.10 behind the frontman, as a striker or even out on the wing so he’d give Wenger plenty of options in the final third and he has the potential to develop in to a real top class player.
