Wenger offers fitness update on Sanchez, Ozil & Ramsey ahead of Chelsea clash
Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield against Chelsea and he’s given a team news update.
The players took part in an open training session today as part of Members Day at the Emirates but Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey were two of the high profile names who weren’t involved in the full session.
Our German playmaker is carrying a minor ankle injury while Ramsey has a muscular problem but Wenger has confirmed the duo should be available for selection to face Chelsea this weekend.
Therefore, the boss says we have virtually a fully-fit squad to choose from as we prepare to face the Premier League champions although a decision is yet to be made over the involvement of Alexis Sanchez and Shkodran Mustafi.
The pair were given extended breaks this summer after helping their countries reach the final of the Confederations Cup with Mustafi resuming training last weekend while Sanchez’s return was delayed until Tuesday due to flu.
They were both involved in full training with the rest of the squad today but Wenger says he’ll make a late decision over their availability at Wembely on Sunday.
Here is what Wenger told reporters this afternoon:
At AW presser. Wenger: "We have basically everybody available. Ozil (ankle), Ramsey (muscular) not in full training but should be alright."
