Arsenal close-in on signing of £10m international midfielder
According to the Mirror, Arsenal are closing-in on a £10m deal to sign CSKA Moscov midfielder Alexandr Golovin this summer.
Arsene Wenger is expected to revamp his squad over the coming months after committing himself to a new two-year deal and it looks like strengthening his midfield options is a priority.
And it appears the boss is already working on a new addition as the Mirror are citing a report from Sports.ru that claims Arsenal are close to agreeing a £10m deal to sign Golovin.
However, it seems the Russian international is viewed as more of a long-term signing as the newspaper says the midfielder could immediately re-join CSKA on loan for next season before linking up with Arsenal in 2018.
The 21-year-old came through the CSKA youth system and is considered an important first team player having made 37 appearances in all competitions last season to help them finish runners-up in the Russia Premier League.
Golovin has also been linked with Chelsea in recent months but it looks as though we’ve won the race for his signature and he could now become our second signing of the summer after we snapped-up Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.
I’ve said for a while now that we need to strengthen our midfield as it looks like Jack Wilshere is unlikely to be offered a new contract and we can’t rely on Santi Cazorla because of his dodgy Achilles.
It’s good to see Wenger is planning for the future with the proposed signing of Golovin and he does appear to have a bright future ahead of him but I hope we also look to bring in another established midfielder who’s going to compete with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka next season.
