Arsenal open formal talks over deal to sign £52m striker
It looks like Arsenal have stepped-up their interest in Alexandre Lacazette as French Football News are reporting that we’ve opened talks with Lyon over a deal to sign the £52m-rated striker.
Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a top class forward after committing his future to the club last week and L’Equipe claimed last Friday that Arsenal had set their sights on Kylian Mbappe.
The French outlet said that we’d seen our £87m offer rejected by Monaco and with Real Madrid already submitting a much higher offer, it seems signing Mbappe is going to be extremely difficult.
Therefore, Wenger needs to work on alternatives and while a number of players have been linked in recent days, it looks like the boss has renewed his interest in long-term target Lacazette.
The French international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates last summer before deciding to stay with Lyon and he enhanced his reputation after scoring 37 goals in all competitions last season.
It seems that kind of form has prompted Wenger to try again as French Football News are citing a report from beIN Sports that claims Arsenal have now opened formal negotiations with Lyon over a deal.
The report indicates that the French club are willing to do business as £52m but it remains to be seen whether Wenger will be prepared to meet their asking price.
Lacazette was tipped to join Atletico Madrid but that proposed move fell through after the Spaniard’s transfer ban was upheld and it looks as though Arsenal are now hoping to take full advantage.
I’m a huge fan of Lacazette as he’s proven himself to be one of the deadliest strikers in Europe and we could certainly do with a finisher like him leading the line up front next season.

However, I still think we might find it difficult to lure him to the Emirates as we aren’t able to offer him the Champions League football he desires and the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd have also been linked.
So unless Wenger can work his magic and persuade him to put up with Europa League football for at least a season, I think we’ll see Lacazette heading to Anfield or Old Trafford if he does come to England.
