49-year-old keen as Arsenal begin talks over Wenger replacement

By on February 10, 2017

According to the Mirror, Arsenal chiefs have started to make enquiries with possible replacements for Arsene Wenger as rumours grow that the boss will finally leave the club this summer.

Wenger’s contract expires in June and he’s refused to be drawn on whether he’ll sign a new two-year deal that’s reportedly already been put on the table.

However, with our title hopes ended for another season, there is a growing feeling that Arsene is ready to call it a day this summer and the Mirror claim the hierarchy have now drawn up a short-list of potential replacements.

The four-man list is supposedly headed-up by Thomas Tuchel and the newspaper says that enquiries have been made over the Borussia Dortmund managers situation.

The 43-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young coaches in Europe and the Mirror claim that Arsenal believe Tuchel would be open to moving to north London should he be offered the job.

Another manager who’s been strongly linked in recent weeks is Max Allegri of Juventus and the 49-year-old has fuelled the speculation by refusing to rule out that he’ll be at Arsenal next season.

The report indicates that Allegri is keen to become Wenger’s replacement and to add further fuel to the fire, reports last night suggested that Allegri has already got an agreement in place to leave Juve at the end of the season so he’d be available to take over should Wenger walk.

The Mirror say that the other two names on the list are Bayer Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt and Leonardo Jardim – who’s helped guide Monaco to the last-16 of the Champions League and to the summit of the Ligue 1 table.

Personally, I think it’s time for change at Arsenal and I’d love to see Wenger come out soon to say he’ll be leaving at the end of the season. That way, the fanbase could unite to get behind the boss and give him the send-off he deserves.

It would also allow the club to get his replacement in place quickly and I’d be happy with either Allegri – who’s a proven winner – or Tuchel – who’s an exciting young coach.

It’s certainly going to be an interesting few months but I just hope Wenger’s future gets resolved quickly as the uncertainty isn’t helping anyone.

So many fans, but not me, (no way Jose!) say that if Wenger leaves, who will we get to replace him. That is only through total ignorance of the good managers around who are or could be available to us. This club has become brainwashed by Wenger who is all powerful position wise but all weak, results wise. Thsi stupid obsession with a manager who in the last decade has extremely poor results, given what he then had in 2006-7, is plain ridiculous. Fact:Wenger had a marvellous first decade and a rotten second decade. No sane person would keep Wenger judged purely on his second decade and what possible influence can his former glory years have today, given the mediocre second decade. All rational, ie non-brainwashed fans, want him gone . Yesterday! Or better still many years ago BUT we are where we are and the first step to recovery is to sack, or force Wenger to resign and instill a manager who puts winning above pretty tip tap, but go nowhere football with a bunch of pampered weeds, injury wrecks or cowardly and lazy coasters. Action ! Now!!!
