Ratings: Ozil & Sanchez superb as Arsenal put 3 past Watford

By on August 27, 2016

Arsenal finally collected our first three points of the new Premier League season after easing to a 3-1 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

We were superb in the first half with goals from Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil giving us a 3-0 lead at half time. We dropped off the pace after the break and let Watford grab a goal back but eased to a 3-1 win.

Here are my ratings:

Cech 7.5

Great save to prevent Koscielny scoring an own goal equaliser in the first half and made another superb double save kept it at 3-1.

Bellerin 7.5

Heavily involved in the final third and was always an outlet down the right flank.

Holding 7

Another very composed display from the youngster. Looks to be a real defender.

Koscielny 7

Almost scored an unfortunate OG but was otherwise solid as ever.

Monreal 6

Given a bit of a tough time at left-back. Limped off injured, hopefully it’s not too serious.

Cazorla 6

Broke his 40-game drought by cooly opening the scoring from the spot. Kept the ball moving in midfield.

Xhaka 8

Superb. Sprayed balls all over the pitch as he dictated play from deep. Looks a real player.

Walcott 7

Excellent cross set up Alexis for the second goal and worked really hard for the team.

Ozil 8.5

Excellent 70 minutes from the German. Some beautiful interplay with Alexis and scored a rare header.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 5

Failed to help out Monreal for their first goal and struggled to have real impact in the final third.

Sanchez 8.5

Won the penalty, scored the second with a lovely finish [he did meant it] and stunning cross for Ozil’s third. Back to his best.

Subs:

Wilshere [5], Elneny [6], Gibbs [6]

5 is just about right for the Ox. His link up play was not up to scratch today and he didn’t provide support for Monreal in defence, failing to fall back to track their right back in that second half spell when they enjoyed time on the ball. Then, there was that goal opportunity he chose to lob when a pass to Alexis or Santi may have got the 4th goal.
