Reports – £52m-rated striker flies-in to London for Arsenal talks

By on August 16, 2016

According to reports in Italy via the Evening Standard, Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi is set to fly-in to London for talks with Arsenal about a potential move this summer.

As well as looking for a new centre-back, Arsene Wenger is also hoping to add a top class striker to the squad before the window slams shut and Icardi is one of several names to be linked in recent weeks.

It appears Arsene is serious about trying to land the Argentinean international, if you believe the latest reports, as the Evening Standard are citing reports coming from Italian publication Il Messaggero that claim Icardi is flying to London to meet with Arsenal officials.

However, we aren’t the only club in the running as the report says that Chelsea and Napoli are also keen while Inter are understood to be demanding a whopping £52m (€60m) for the South American’s signature.

I personally don’t see Arsene paying that kind of money, although there were reports in the Daily Star earlier this month suggesting that we’re prepared to pay £29m in cash plus give Inter Olivier Giroud in exchange for Icardi.

We probably shouldn’t read too much in to these latest rumours as there have been countless reports this summer suggesting that Icardi and his wife/agent are coming to London for talks.

The chances are the strikers agent is using Arsenal’s name to get Icardi a better deal at Inter, however, let’s hope not as he’d be an excellent signing if we could somehow get a deal agreed this summer.

The problem, as ever, is going to be price as Inter are under no pressure to sell and with Chelsea and Napoli also reportedly interested, the San Siro club are going to want to generate a bidding war if they do decide to sell.

We all know Arsene doesn’t engage in bidding wars so unless things change drastically over the coming days, I don’t see Icardi arriving at the Emirates any time soon.

How can Icardi be a top striker? Didn´t he only score 7 goals last year? He is not even playing for Argentina national.

OK but still for a price of £ 60 mio +, for that amount wouldn´t be fair to expect a top striker I mean on Benzema, Lewandowski level…

Why would you include Giroud in a deal for an untried player in the Premier League? I’m not a big fan of Giroud but he’s not useless. We need “another” striker as well as Giroud, not instead of.

In my opinion this move for Icardi will also fail, because Wenger will fail in everything he does this season. It will be his worst ever because he is on a meltdown in terms of effectiveness. I hear that we are stalling on Mustafi to ensure that we have enough pennies left for a striker. None sense. If we don’t have enough money for both CD and a striker we shouldn’t have bought Xhaka who is a midfielder for £35m – £42m when we are over endowed with midfielders and he wont even make it to the starting 11 while Elneni is available. Meltdown is what I regrettably expect from Wenger this season. I hope he never sets foot at the Emirates again. Harsh, yes, but sadly true.

Remember Wenger wouldn’t pay £35m for Higuin three years ago when Higuin was at his best? In any case, Icardi is worth no more than £20m – £25m, though better than not having any additional striker. Higuin is 3 times the striker that Icardi is. Another puzzling question is how Chambers is able to get into a starting 11 for Arsenal when in my opinion he is not even a premier league standard. Sel, sell, sell, buy buy buy, but not £50 odd million for Icardi – it won’t happen anyway.

I agree with you on the Calum Chamber’s preference. I wonder how a player like that would stop Ibra, Aguero, Payet and Pogba

Has anyone mentioned to Wenger that the season has started. Arsenal lost the opening game at Emirates in the last 3 out of 4 seasons. Wake up Mr Wenger.

It’s being a frustrating summer for all arsenal fans & am tired of all this speculations about mustafi saga. It’s taking a lot of time & that arsenal don’t have. The manager is the issue & I don’t foreseen arsenal winning the EPL under his stewardship ever again because he has find it hard to adjust to the new hefty transfer fees in the market & as such limiting the progress of the team. If he can sign xhaka for 30£ plus, I see no reason why he can’t pay the same amount for a proven defender in person of mustafi.

Exactly. Has he (Wenger) lost all sense of rationality?

I think Wenger should leave Arsenal & we try anothet Coach like other teams.Ziddane join Madrid & he atrophy why not Henry also join Arsenal? to try his best.

You know what? I would even take ANY coach from the premier league as preferable. It looks to me like Mr Wenger is acting like a person who is totally incapacitated, paralysed to take any action not realising that “taking no action/decision IS A DECISION IN ITSELF “. And like all decisions.non-decisions it will have a price to pay. Unfortunately it will be Arsenal and the fans who will pay for it not Wenger!

This is crap, we have had about this guy for a long time and what I know when Arsenal want to buy a player, they do not take a long time to do it, there is nothing happening this is just gossip.

wenger is always joining races to signs players. keenly watching players and ever preparing bids. we all know how the end looks like and there is no point pretending. what begun as stinginess has cost wenger his reputation. no world class player is currently interested in working with him and this could cost the entire club. he needs to throw in the towel and look for fresh challenge elsewhere.

Arsenal transfer news is the most boring ever…Wenger enter races to sign players and never gets them and I did not see Icardi in an Argentina kit before. We are in for another tough outing against Leicester

Wenger is a complete linking verb, he will continue to link all the players in Europe until the transfers close.he’s very shameless.

you are right braxx. it is always coming. we are the club that is linked with the most number of players during every window. we however buy noone in the end. perhaps arsenal will regain its glory when these people finally leave.

A lot of people don’t realise that every window with Wenger has been exactly the same with just a few exceptions. Names of top performers are mentioned but never bought. It’s all talk. My favourite quote from him was “there’ll be no last minute shopping.” 2nd best was “we’re working hard” to secure this player or that player. Right now he’s sitting at his desk, fingers crossed and “hoping” he can buy the Valencia Centre Back. That is not what you’d call a real go getter manager.
