Arsenal in talks with Atletico over deal for £84m Griezmann

By on August 2, 2016

According to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, Arsenal are in talks with Atletico Madrid over a sensational deal to sign £84m-rated attacker Antoine Griezmann this summer.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a new striker to offer competition for Olivier Giroud and we’ve been strongly linked with a move for Alexandre Lacazette after missing out on the likes of Jamie Vardy and Gonzalo Higuain.

However, Giulianelli claims that Lacazette is being lined-up as our backed-up option in-case Wenger doesn’t manage to secure a shock deal for his ‘dream’ target, Griezmann.

The Italian journalist says that Arsenal chiefs have been in talks with Atletico for several weeks but have been told they won’t do business for anything less than the 25-year-old’s €100m buyout clause.

In today’s exchange rate, that now works out at over £84m, which is well beyond our budget so any deal is highly unlikely unless Atletico lower their demands substantially.

There is a possibility that the La Liga giants may soften their stance if they mange to lure Diego Costa back from Chelsea. Diego Simeone is keen to partner Costa with new striker Kevin Gameiro and they could cash-in on Greizmann if they can get a deal agreed for the Spanish international.

Giulianelli claims that Arsenal are making one last push to try and land the French international but Wenger isn’t thought to be too confident, hence why he’s lining-up a deal for Lacazette in the back ground.

Who knows how much truth there is behind this report but obviously Griezmann would be a sensational signing. He is genuinely world class and we’d finally have a striker who would strike fear in to opposition defences again.

He was the star of Euro 2016 and we all saw how well he linked up with Giroud so it would be a dream to see it at Arsenal next season but realistically we’re highly unlikely to get a deal agreed.

If Pogba is worth over £100m, Griezmann should be worth £120m in today’s market. Atletico will know his value so why would they accept less than his £84m buyout clause? Even if they do get Costa, I don’t see them lowering their price to what Wenger will pay.  £60m would still probably be out of our reach.

So while I’d love to see Griezmann come to Arsenal, I think Lacazette is a far more realistic target for us….

Pure fantasy…Wenger would never spend that kind of money on any player and the funniest thing is…having watched a relatively successful Griezmann/Giroud partnership in the Euros he wouldn’t play them together as a front two anyway…otherwise he would have, already, tried this formation with Alexis!!
Arsenal desperately need a half decent CF who can share Giroud’s workload and inspire him to work harder for his place.Admittedly there aren’t many likely candidates and those that might be suitable are massively overpriced…but that’s the nature of the market…which has to be accepted. That said both Spurs and Seville have mananged to bag themselves a forward (both linked with Arsenal) who might well have suited Arsenal’s needs with a reasonable fee attached. One thing is certain…a player who struggled to earn himself a starting berth for Hull a few months ago in the Championship is not good enough… and I feel another Sanogo/Bentner scenario could be in the offing!!
Otherwise a more desperate need revolves around an experienced CB.I cannot for the life of me understand why Arsenal would watch on as Everton buy a Premier League experienced Centre-Back for £10m..someone who can lead on the pitch…and potentially mentor both of Arsenal’s young CBs.
Frankly Arsenal’s transfer policy is little more than a joke.Without David Dein almost every transfer deal has turned out to be a “saga”…taking far longer than every other club and invariably ending in excuses. There is no planning or fore-thought…surely Arsenal must have had experienced CB targets lined-up prior to the injury to the BFG.Someone must have considered that his usefulness was coming to an end…even before his knee injury?Unfortunately, this situation will continue as long as the current management structure remains at the Club.

but well put joel, until us arsenal fans put together a serious protest on a regular basis, as the black scarf movement regularly threaten , as quoted on there front page of there website………..

” At the Black Scarf Movement our views and suggested solutions have struck a chord with many fans and we’ve now grown to be the largest Arsenal supporters’ group. We say it like it is so if things are good we’ll praise. If things could be improved we’ll say it and suggest how. On the pitch, we’ll give the team our full support, but away from the pitch we’re here to ensure that the club realises the value of its core support”

this is aslo a load of bollocks

The only way to get the club to listen to fans, is to stop spending money on shirts, scarfs and memorabilia, also don’t spend money on food and drink at the ground, this would be the only way to get the boards attention, as they only worship money.
Griezmann to Arsenal what a joke pure fantasy

Football clubs don’t listen to fans unless their owner is a reactionary idiot (fan) himself.

Arsene Wenger and the club see eye to eye on how the club should be run, with any differences sorted behind closed doors. The fans have no input. Which is as it should be.

Not asking for input, asking for player investment

Dream on. How much Wil Wenger offer.
35 million. He doesn’t want to spend 42 million for a striker. How is he going to spend 84 million. Wenger can’t even count that high. Let alone spend so much
