Henry to walk out on Arsenal following bust-up with Wenger

By on July 12, 2016

According to widespread reports today, Thierry Henry is set to quit his coaching role with Arsenal following a row with Arsene Wenger.

Henry has been working with the club as a youth coach while doing his Pro License badge but it seems his role as a Sky Sports pundit is causing problems between him and the boss.

Like all pundits, our record goal-scorer was critical of Arsenal players at times last season, particularly Olivier Giroud as Henry said Arsenal would struggle to win the title with the Frenchman as our main striker leading to Wenger hitting back at Henry’s comments to defend Giroud.

There were several other smaller incidents that appear to have angered our long-serving manager as the Mirror claim that Arsene has told Henry he doesn’t want to see a repeat this coming season so has given the former striker an ultimatum that he has to choose between his coaching career at Arsenal and his role as a pundit.

And the newspaper says that while Thierry would love to continue working with the youngsters at London Colney, it looks like he’s not impressed at being told he needs to quit his role with Sky as he’s understood to be ready to walk out on his Arsenal job.

I would be gutted if Henry does leave as it’s great to have a legend like him working within the club but I understand that this is a tricky situation to manage.

Henry has a job to do as a pundit and can’t let his affiliation with Arsenal lead to any bias in his work with Sky Sports. However, there is a clear conflict of interest as it can’t be healthy for players like Giroud to hear Henry slamming him on TV and then seeing him at the training ground the next day.

Wenger hates conflict or unrest so I’m not surprised he’s handed Henry an ultimatum but unfortunately it looks as though we’re going to see another Arsenal legend working with a rival club rather than Arsenal.

wenger should quit our beloved club. Hes a very terribly selfish man and always let our best legend walk away due to his rigid and self-interest characters. Please walk away now, Arsene!

“always lets our best legends walk away”? Are you 2 years old and cannot understand the meaning of “conflict of interest”? Wenger has no fewer than 3 ex-Arsenal men working at the club in different capacities and is ever willing to allow ex-players work for their coaching badges at the club. How many other clubs allow that to happen? Fact is Henry was asked to choose and he did. Let him carry on with punditry till he is ready to focus on coaching. The door is always open.
