Arsenal hope to sign £40m striker with £155k-a-week contract offer

By on May 21, 2016

A report in the Mirror today claims that Arsenal are ready to offer Alvaro Morata a huge £155,000-a-week contract to bring him to the Emirates in a potential £40m deal.

Arsene Wenger has already admitted that he’ll look to bring in another forward after losing Danny Welbeck for nine months due to a serious knee injury.

Morata is one of several names to be linked in recent weeks and it looks as though we’re now ready to formalise our interest by offering the Spanish international a huge contract.

The Mirror are reporting that Arsenal chiefs will look to fend off interest from the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd by tempting the 23-year-old with a lucrative contract offer worth £155,000-a-week.

Morata is currently on the books at Juventus having joined the club from Real Madrid in 2014 but the La Liga giants are expected to activate a buyback clause that they inserted in to the deal when he was sold two years ago and then sell the striker on at a profit.

The Mirror suggest that Madrid will demand a fee in the region of £40m for his signature, so it looks like it would be a HUGE outlay if we are to sign the young forward this summer.

No doubt Morata is a big talent but I’d personally be disappointed if we decided to spend that kind of money on him as I don’t think he’s an elite striker just yet. For £40m, I’d be expecting the finished article and Morata is nowhere near the prolific hitman we need.

He managed just 7 league goals for champions Juventus last season and he’s never even scored double figures in any league campaign throughout his career. Giroud got 16 in the Premier League this season and got hammered.

So if we’re going to spend circa £40m on a striker, I’d expect a 25+ goal a season man. Someone like Gonzalo Higuain, who got 36 Serie A goals for Napoli in the same league as Morata.

Morata is not worth that type of financial outlay, I’d rather get Lukaku who scored goals in the PL for fun and will gobble up the chances missed by Giroud.

For someone who didn’t hit a doubt figure in his career yet, would be a big gamble..bring us Lukaku please.

Alvaro Morata isn’t even the #1 at Juventus. He’s actually 3rd choice behind Mario Mandzucic and Paolo Dyballa. Why anyone would pay £40 million for him is beyond rational thought. £20 million, yes. Prices for strikers are inflated, but for a player who scored 8 league goals last year (15 in all comps) and 7 this year (12 in all comps) £40 million is ridiculous.

Of course, Thierry Henry never scored more than 11 goals in a season for either Juventus or monaco before coming to Arsenal and averaging close to 30 goals a year. Robin van Persie scored 16 goals in his best Eredivisie season before he came to Arsenal.

25 goal scorers are hard to find and harder to sign. There are a handful of them world wide and an even smaller number who play for clubs willing to sell them.

This really seems like it is coming from Morata’s camp who want to get him out of Juventus and into a place where he can become the main striker. Giroud is far more prolific than Morata and he’s been more prolific his entire Arsenal career. If Arsenal do sign Morata and they do pay 155,000 per week for him they will end up with a salary revolt.

Ozil, Sanchez, Giroud, Bellerin, Koscielny, Ramsey, Wilshire… virtually the entire starting XI, wouldexpect new contracts. Some of the squad players would expect to see higher wages too, especially if Morata doesn’t live up to the hype.

lets face it MORATA is not that prolific goal scorer we need. so whats all the fuss about.a better man for the job is VINCENT JANSSEN would be cheaper, with SANCHEZ on one wing IWOBI or WALCOTT,. or CAMPBELL on the other who knows we may win the league with a better defence

Wenger is about to commit another blunder and heartbreak to arsenal fans if he defy the wishes of fans to sign Moratta who has never score 10 goals in his entire playing career.

Morata might just be waiting for the Emirates ground to get his Guns blazing. He has potentials..simply put plus “Wenger could make some magic outa him”
