Arsenal boss plotting £80m triple swoop this summer – report

By on May 12, 2016

The transfer rumour mill is already in overdrive and the Express are carrying a report today that claims Arsene Wenger is ready to splash £80m on three new players this summer.

The boss is under increasing pressure to spend after a disappointing campaign and the newspaper says Arsene is ready to launch moves for Granit Xhaka, Alvaro Morata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Xhaka has been hotly tipped to join Arsenal in recent weeks and reports yesterday suggested that we are closing in on a £30m deal for the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.

With Arteta and Flamini leaving next month, we need to sign another central midfielder and Xhaka would be a superb addition as he’s known for his excellent passing range as well as his leadership skills.

With Danny Welbeck now set to miss the majority of next season, we also desperately need to sign another striker this summer and the Express claim that Wenger has set his sights on Juventus hitman Morata.

The Spaniard was linked with a move to the Emirates when he left Real Madrid in 2014 but we missed out as he opted for a move to Juve and he’s continued to impress during the last two seasons in Italy.

However, the paper says Madrid are ready to activate a £23m buyback clause that was included in the deal, and then immediately sell him for £30m in order to turn a quick profit, with Arsenal understood to be keen to do business.

So that’s £60m on Xhaka and Morata, so who is the final £20m going on? Well according to the Express’s report, Arsene is also eyeing a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian international has become one of the most dangerous attackers in European football having scored 23 goals and provided an incredible 30 (thirty!) assists in all competitions this season alone, so it’s no wonder that we’re sniffing around.

He only has one year remaining on his contract and reports earlier this week suggested extension talks have broken down as Dortmund have refused to accept the players demand of having a buyout clause inserted in to any new deal.

So it looks as though Dortmund may have to cash in this summer or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months time, and Mkhitaryan could be the ideal replacement for Theo Walcott – who’s set to leave Arsenal following a disappointing season.

Who knows how much truth there is behind all these rumours but if we could sign Xhaka, Mkhitaryan and Morata this summer, and add a couple of fringe players, we’d have a squad capable of challenging for top honours again next season.

Fingers crossed…..

Always lots of talk about big transfers when it’s season ticket buying time, but that’s all it is just to make sure tickets are sold. But let’s face it the boss spends no money and still makes the top 4 a board and owners wet dream.
