Arsenal to table £30m bid as Wenger plans to buy top class striker

According to the Mirror, Arsene Wenger has finally accepted he needs to sign a top class striker and will submit a cheeky £30m bid for Liverpool hitman Daniel Sturridge this summer.

We’ve been crying out for the boss to sign a new striker ever since Robin van Persie left in 2012 but it looks as though Wenger is finally ready to oblige and he’s supposedly set his sights on Sturridge.

The 26-year-old has once again seen his season hampered by a series of injury problems but he’s now back to full fitness and scored his 12th goal in 23 appearances against Villarreal last week.

However, Sturridge’s future at Anfield appears to be in some doubt after he was left on the bench for key Europa League games against Borussia Dortmund and the first leg of their semi-final against Villarreal amid rumours of a rift with Jurgen Klopp.

Only an injury to Divock Origi has seen Sturridge regain his first team place and it does look like Klopp isn’t fully convinced by the England international – who admitted in an interview last week that he couldn’t commit his long-term future to Anfield.

The Mirror claim that Arsenal are now ready to test Liverpool’s resolve by tabling an opening £30m offer for the striker with Wenger understood to be a huge admirer.

I think it’s safe to say Liverpool would politely decline such an offer but it would be interesting to see if they’d be willing to negotiate as from the outside, there does appear to be some friction between Sturridge and Klopp.

If the Merseysiders do decide to cash-in, we should be well positioned to win the race for his signature as Sturridge is highly unlikely to return to either Chelsea or Man City after previously failing to make the grade at both clubs while Liverpool would never sell to Man Utd. That would leave Spurs as our main competition from the traditional big English clubs.

Obviously it would be a big risk signing Sturridge due to his injury record and another injury-prone player is the last thing we need. However, he’d be an excellent signing if we could keep him fit.

We’ll certainly need to pay more than £30m, but how about £30, 000, 001?

    If he joins Arsenal Sturridge will be yet another
    “Big named” signing to add to all the other sicknotes Arsenal keep amassing year after year aka Walcott, Rosicky, Wilshere, Oxlaide Chamberlain etc. Not sure what the Gunners do to their players but they always seemed to have a long injury list of key players every season.
