Wenger offers positive injury update on Arsenal midfielder
Arsene Wenger has offered an update on the fitness of Jack Wilshere and says the midfielder could be back playing again before February.
Wilshere is yet to feature this season after undergoing surgery on a fractured fibula which he picked up in training on the eve of our Community Shield clash with Chelsea in August.
The 23-year-old was due to make his comeback in early January but Arsene revealed just last week that he had suffered a setback that would keep him out until February ‘at the earliest’.
This prompted fears Jack could be out for even longer which would not only put his season with Arsenal in jeopardy, but also his participation in next summers European Championships.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Newcastle, the boss has eased those fears by claiming that Wilshere could be back BEFORE February and is confident he’ll be fit for the Euro’s.
He’s quoted as saying by the Express:
“I maintain what I said that he [Wilshere] could make it back for February or even earlier,”
“He will be available again. Considering you play the Euros on June 10, that is a long way.”
It would be a major boost to have Wilshere back before February but we’re just going to have to be patient and see how he recovery goes over the next few weeks.
Obviously we shouldn’t rush him back but hopefully he can get himself fit and available for selection as soon as possible as with Cazorla and Coquelin out with long-term injuries, we need more options in midfield.
