Arsenal Team News Update: Koscielny, Bellerin, The Ox & Rosicky
It’s been another hectic day of team news at Arsenal so I’ll bring you a round-up of all the latest news ahead of our clash with Tottenham on Sunday.
Let’s start with the good news and it looks like Koscielny is going to be okay to face Spurs on Sunday. The centre-back missed our thrashing at Bayern Munich due to a hip injury and will have a late fitness test on Saturday but Arsene has given him an 80% chance of being fit this weekend.
However, Bellerin has been ruled out with the groin injury that saw him miss the trip to Germany on Wednesday night. In his absence, Debuchy will continue to deputise at right-back.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on the team news…
From the unfortunate Wednesday night, we have no injuries. Players back for Sunday, we might have Koscielny and I think that it is. Arteta has a test tomorrow morning, Bellerin is a doubt already.
on Koscielny’s chances…
Eighty per cent. He will have a test tomorrow.
on Debuchy and Bellerin…
Mathieu needed a little competition. Game after game he has basic fitness and now with another game he should be better. Bellerin unfortunately will not be ready, I think he could be back after the break.
Obviously it will be a huge boost to have Kos back in the team but I think we’re going to really miss Bellerin. Let’s pray Debuchy can find some form because he’s been diabolical this season whenever he’s played.
We still have a lengthy injury list to contend with but the Telegraph claim that Oxlade-Chamberlain is due to return to full training tomorrow after recovering from the hamstring injury he picked up against Sheffield Wednesday last week.
There’s no chance he’ll be in contention to face Spurs but it’s a good sign he’s back in training so soon as he should be fit and ready to go after the international break.
The newspaper also revealed that Rosicky has been given the go-ahead to resume training next week after the midfielder was given the all clear to step up his recovery from knee surgery.
The 35-year-old hasn’t featured yet this season but the Czech international saw a specialist in Munich on Tuesday and has been given the green light to return to training.
It’s still going to be a long road for him to get back to full fitness but it’s another player who’s closing in on making his comeback. Slowly but surely we’ll get our squad back together.
Hopefully we can beat Tottenham on Sunday and then we should have Bellerin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arteta and possibly Ramsey back after the international break.
