Ratings: Mesut Ozil In Sublime Form As Arsenal Beat QPR 2-1

By on March 4, 2015

Arsenal ground out a hard fought 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez on Wednesday night.

Here are my ratings:

Ospina  6.5/10 – Good save to deny Philips from an awkward cross-come-shot in the first half but didn’t get near Austin’s powerful goal.

Bellerin  8/10 – An excellent display from the youngster. Bellerin didn’t stop working the right wing and was solid in defence.

Mertesacker  7/10 – A fine return to the team from Mertesacker. His height was crucial in dealing with the aerial threat posed by QPR.

Gabriel  6/10 – Got bullied by Zamora early on. Forced off with an injury midway through the first half. Hopefully it’s not serious.

Gibbs  7/10 – Good work to create the opening goal and then grabbed his second assist by also setting up Sanchez. A real outlet down the left all night but terrible defending allowed Austin to score.

Coquelin  7.5/10 – Played with a face mask and didn’t let it affect him as he put in another fine midfield display. Hounded the QPR players all over the pitch, making interceptions and breaking up play.

Cazorla  7/10 – Kept things moving in midfield and his nifty foot-work got him out of a tight squeeze a few times. Went close to scoring with a decent volley that was well saved.

Rosicky  7/10 – Great run set-up Ozil early in second half and he was largely positive on the ball.

Ozil  8.5/10 – Sublime performance. His touch and quality stood out, particularly in the second half, as he dictated play. Should have had a penalty early in the second half when he was pulled back by Henry. Superb work almost made it 3-0 but his effort was tipped onto the post. Great performance.

Alexis  8/10 – Played his part in the opening goal then almost made it two with a fine strike that was well saved. Should have scored when clean through but made amends with a superb effort from a tight angle to make it 2-0.

Giroud  7/10 – Poachers finish to open the scoring and he battled hard against the home sides defence.

Subs:

Koscielny 7/10 – Looked more comfortable than Gabriel did as Kos marshalled the back-line.

Ramsey & Welbeck N/A – Only on for minutes at the end.

So it was a real gutsy performance from the lads. We were pretty poor in the first half but much better after the break and deserved our win.

We remain third in the table but have the chasing pack breathing down our neck as Man Utd, Liverpool and Tottenham all won on Wednesday night.

Next up Old Trafford in the FA Cup….
