Wenger Vows To Spend After Being Hit By Yet Another Injury Blow
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has vowed to spend after confirming today that Mikel Arteta will miss the next three months with an ankle injury.
Arteta has been out since suffering a calf injury in late November and was subsequently ruled out again when he picked up an ankle problem last month.
It seems the injury was worse than first though as the club announced on Arsenal.com earlier today that the Spaniard will be out for ‘approximately’ three months after having successful surgery to remove a bony spur [whatever that is!] from his left ankle.
Arsene told the clubs website:
“Mikel has had surgery which went well. I have just seen him, he is back with us at the training ground.
“He had a limited mobility in his ankle and some persistent inflammation that had an impact on his calf. That meant we had to make the decision to have surgery and it’s a proper solution which gives him the best chance to recover.”
It’s a major blow to lose Arteta but thankfully the boss has confirmed he’s working hard to bring in ‘one or two’ players after also losing Mathieu Debuchy for three months with a dislocated shoulder.
“Yes we are more [in the market now],” he told Arsenal.com.
“We have Chambers and we have Bellerin, who is coming on well, and I want to give them a chance as well, but of course we are in the market like many other clubs.
“We work really hard morning until late night to try to get one or two players in.”
We’re on the verge of completing a £2.4m deal for 17-year-old Krystian Bielik but Let’s hope we can also bring in a couple of more experienced players who’ll be ready to help out the first team immediately before the end of the month.
